Melon Medley is our limited-edition spring bar made with fresh watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe, and it's the soap we chose to lead our 6th Anniversary Set. Here's why melons belong on your skin, what each one brings to the lather, and why this bar only comes around once a year.
Why melons, of all things
Melons are around 90 percent water, and the rest is mostly natural sugar. Both matter here.
We don't use a melon extract or a fragrance. We render whole melons by blending them down and adding the purée directly into our soap batter. That does two things. First, the hydration built into the bar comes with vitamins, minerals, and natural sugars that plain water can't offer. Second, and this is the clever part, those natural sugars are what create the lather.
Most bar soaps rely on coconut oil for bubbles. Coconut oil makes a big, fast foam, but it's also a strong cleanser that can over-cleanse and strip the skin's protective barrier, which is why so many people step out of the shower feeling tight and itchy. By letting the melon sugars do the lathering instead, we can leave coconut oil out entirely. You get a soft, silky lather that cleans the skin without drying out the barrier that keeps moisture in.
The result: skin that feels quenched instead of squeaky. That's the whole idea behind the Melon Medley bar.
What each melon does
🍉 Watermelon Watermelon is rich in lycopene (the antioxidant that gives it its color) and vitamins A and C. It's also a natural source of citrulline, an amino acid linked to healthy circulation. On skin, watermelon is prized for its cooling, calming feel and its ability to help skin look bright and refreshed.
🍈 Honeydew Honeydew brings vitamin C, potassium, and B vitamins, along with a high water content that helps skin feel plump. It's the gentlest of the three and helps keep the bar soothing for reactive skin.
🍊 Cantaloupe Cantaloupe is loaded with beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A, a nutrient known for supporting smooth, even-textured skin. It also carries vitamin C and folate, and its natural fruit enzymes help gently soften rough patches.
Together they make a bar that hydrates, brightens, and softens without any harsh actives.
The oils underneath
With the melons handling the lather, the oils can focus on conditioning. The blended melon goes into a base of raw shea butter, avocado oil, hempseed oil, and rice bran oil, all rich in fatty acids that soften skin while you cleanse. No coconut oil, no palm oil, nothing that's there just to make foam.
The scent
Geranium, bergamot, and litsea cubeba (may chang) give it a bright, floral, citrus-forward top, and a touch of clove and eucalyptus adds a subtle warmth underneath. Handmade in New York, by the founder
Every Melon Medley bar is made exclusively in our personal care studio in New York, by hand, by TERRA-TORY founder Kimberly Waldropt. No contract manufacturer, no outsourcing. Fresh melons are blended down in the studio for each small batch, so color and texture vary a little from bar to bar. That's what real fruit does.
A spring-only bar
Melon Medley is a seasonal, limited-edition release. It's made in small quantities for spring and early summer and is retired when the batches are gone. If it's on the site, it's in season.
How to use it
- Lather onto a wet washcloth or between your hands and massage into skin.
- Rinse and pat dry.
- Follow with a moisturizer while skin is still damp. The Geranium Omega Body Oil is the natural match.
- Hang the soap to dry between uses so it lasts.
Frequently asked questions
Is Melon Medley good for sensitive or eczema-prone skin? It's formulated for it: coconut oil free, no synthetic fragrance, and a non-stripping lather. Patch test first if your skin is very reactive.
Does it smell like melon? Not strongly. The melons are in the bar for what they do, not how they smell. What you'll notice is the geranium, bergamot, and citrus with a little warmth from clove.
Can I use it on my face? Yes. It's gentle enough for face and body.
Is it vegan? Yes. Fully plant-based.
