Turmeric: Why we need this in our lives.

Turmeric is one of the most used spices in Asian and Caribbean culture. Sharing the same family as the beloved ginger, it has a warm spicy flavor and aroma. But we can identify it by its beautiful golden color that you can't deny, much like curry.

Curcumin, a strong anti-inflammatory found in turmeric has been used for skin conditions and healing wounds for thousands of years. Turmeric has been called "the internal healer" in Ayurveda and widely used in medicine in Indian culture. A popular way to get your turmeric is blending it with warm milk. Preferably a plant-based milk. Turmeric blends are easy to find today. Some great brands I recommend are Golde or Blume. They're easy to digest and tastes great. Turmeric is known to heal internal inflammation and pain (like Arthritis) for thousands of years. Turmeric is also been shown to alleviate skin irritation, redness and itching caused by eczema. A natural cleanser for sensitive much like our Fresh Carrot + Turmeric Cube. Research has also shown that lower risks of certain types of cancers in regions of people who consume 100 to 200 mg of curcumin daily, over a long period of time.

Seasonal allergies and sinus infections have been know to be alleviated with drinking hot turmeric tea.

Here's what you'll need:

  • 3 heaped tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tbsp fresh grated ginger
  • 1 small orange, zest pared
  • honey or agave and lemon slices, to serve
  • STEP 1 Boil water in kettle. Put the turmeric, ginger and orange zest in to a teapot or jug. Pour over the boiling water and allow to infuse for around 5 mins.
  • STEP 2 Strain through a sieve or tea strainer into two cups, add a slice of lemon and sweeten with honey or agave, if you like.

We can compare curcumin, found in turmeric, as powerful as some anti-inflammatory drugs today. This study demonstrates the neutralizing of oxidative retinal stress and inflammation reduced in mice being given curcumin over a period of 8 weeks. Curcumin boosts hormone levels in the brain slowing down the rate of Alzhiemers (see study here). This anti-inflammatory quality is important enough to reduce the risk of heart disease.

How could you not want to consume this for your healthier self? We encourage adding golden turmeric into your daily or even weakly regimen in whatever way possible.
